8th Devlog: Last Week of Sprint 2

User Interface:

A lot of progress was done to the games UI. The artists and programmers worked together to create and design the main menu, pause menu, leaderboard, and settings menu. The most important rule we had to keep in mind was readability. We needed to make sure the player was able to easily navigate the menus without confusion. Along with the design being visually pleasing and smooth.

The level:

A lot of work when into the level. The two topics we focused on was:

  • The Level itself and how it plays.
  • The atmosphere and feeling.

Now that we've gotten a good basis for our game. We can feel confident and ready for the polishing phase. This will be where we look at all of the problems we have in the level and the game. And shift our focus to fix these issues.

In order to set the ambience we continued adjusting the lighting and we changed the post-process volume accordingly. We increased the background fog thickness and added a blueish tint to it.

We also added an effect at the end so the player has a visual indication of where the level ends.

Leaderboard:

We wanted online leaderboards to make the game more competitive and fun. We decided to use Microsoft Azure PlayFab, which provides multiplayer services for free. It’s fairly easy to use and there is a lot of documentation about it. The player logs into PlayFab at the start of the game automatically. If the login doesn’t work for some reason, the leaderboard shows local scores.
